Following the keynote address Monday morning at NARUC’s Summer Policy Summit on July 20, 2020, the first panel of industry leaders discussed measures taken to manage the coronavirus crisis, from changes in their everyday operations to their long-term planning assumptions. Examined up close were the impacts of these changes and what needs to take place moving forward to reduce negative effects.

Moderated by NARUC President and Mississippi Commissioner Brandon Presley, on the panel were Karen Harbert, CEO, American Gas Association, Tom Kuhn, President, Edison Electric Institute, Rob Powelson, CEO, National Association of Water Companies, Jonathan Spalter, CEO, USTelecom-The Broadband Association, and David Springe, Executive Director, National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates.

NARUC President Brandon Presley: This afternoon, we want to focus on how the utility sector has and is continuing to respond to the pandemic. We've assembled leaders of utility associations for a frank discussion on the new world we're living in, the challenges the industry has seen since COVID, and as regulators began to move forward during this pandemic to make sure the lights stayed on and utility workers stayed protected, how we help do our part to keep society together.
