PUF's Steve Mitnick: What's it like to be Chair of the Commission?

Chair Valcq: It's better than I ever imagined. I'm sort of unique because I came to the Commission after spending my whole career in the industry. I started practicing as a lawyer in front of the Commission.

Being at the Commission now feels like my career is coming full circle. People joke about how in the world did you ever end up in utility regulatory law. It was a neat path. I feel like the luckiest person because I'm able to continue my energy career, but now looking through a different lens.

Not only were we the first Commission, but Wisconsin was also the first state to create a Consumer Advocate on behalf of residential and small business customers. There's a retired power plant in Milwaukee that was the first plant in the world to use pulverized coal. It was a test plant. Wisconsin has a cool, long history when it comes to energy.

PUF: Carrie, you're the Chief of Staff. What's your job like?
