Charles Matthews is the CEO of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas
PUF's Steve Mitnick: What is your role here?
Charles Matthews: I'm President and CEO of Peoples Energy, which includes Peoples Gas in the city of Chicago and North Shore Gas in North Chicago. I've been in this role almost four years now. Between Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas, we provide natural gas to about one million residential and business customers.
We are proud to be Chicago's first and oldest utility company. As the third largest city in the nation, there's a rich history here in Chicago. Part of that history includes an aging infrastructure and a natural gas distribution system in need of modernization.
So, a big part of my job is overseeing our System Modern-ization Program, a massive pipeline replacement program, and making sure it stays on track. It's my top priority to ensure we provide our customers the safest and most reliable natural gas service possible.
