The PUF team made its way to the North Carolina Utilities Commission in mid-February. They received a warm welcome not only from the Commission but also from the independent and large Public Staff, which intervenes on behalf of the using and consuming public.

 

PUF: How did you come to be a Commissioner?

Commissioner Gray: I was serving as the secretary of revenue for the state of North Carolina.

I'd been there three years and realized that maybe there was another opportunity where I might have a greater, steeper learning curve. Then the position at the Utilities Commission came open. I went and had dinner one night, over in the mansion, with the governor at the time.
