Beth Trombold is Vice-Chair of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
PUF: You've served here at the Commission for five years and were just reappointed for another five. What's a typical day like?
Commissioner Trombold: I don't think there is a typical day. That's part of the reason why I wanted to seek reappointment. Every day is different. Every day is challenging. Every day brings new issues to confront, and new things to learn.
For example, I may be reviewing a utility case, attending a public hearing, meeting with utility companies or stakeholders on concerns, working with the Organization of PJM States on regional transmission issues, or reading the latest decision by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
There are only five of us in the entire state of Ohio who have this job. It's a pretty unique place. With it comes a lot of responsibility to ratepayers and to the industry. What we do affects everyone in Ohio. I don't ever want to lose sight of that. That's something I find to be very fulfilling in public service: the things we can do within the confines of the statute to better people's lives.
