PUF: What is a typical day like for you?

Chair Haque: According to statute, I am the Chief Executive Officer of the agency. That is not a title that typically is adopted by the chair. Usually the chair just goes by the Chair title.

About seven months ago I added Chief Executive Officer to the title. I'm running the agency on a day-to-day basis. We've seen different models of chairs at the agency.

Some will take the administrative duties at the agency and they'll give them to what we traditionally call the chief of staff, or another individual that is running the day-to-day work at the agency. But I do all things administrative, which includes fiscal, HR, and IT modernization.

I sign off on travel requests on a day-to-day basis and I manage the budget. I have a wonderful team that helps me do that, but the average day typically consists of half administrative duties and half substantive case or policy matters.
